The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), in collaboration with the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, will commence a nationwide crackdown on vehicles using expired 2025 DV plates and DP stickers starting Tuesday, March 24, 2026.
This enforcement exercise targets motorists still displaying 2025 dealer vehicle (DV) plates or expired Departure from Port (DP) stickers, which the DVLA says are now illegal following the rollout of the 2026 DV plates.
In a public notice, the DVLA explained that the use of 2025 DV plates and DP stickers had been temporarily extended due to delays in the full implementation of new vehicle licence plates. However, after officially issuing the 2026 DV plates on February 4, 2026, to motor traders, fleet owners, and licensed trade plate dealers, continued use of the outdated plates or stickers violates road traffic regulations.
The authority emphasized that DV plate usage is governed by Regulation 23 of the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2180), which outlines the specific categories of vehicles permitted to use such plates. Motorists whose vehicles do not qualify under these categories must complete proper vehicle registration in line with the law.
The DVLA further noted that all its offices nationwide have been processing 2026 vehicle registrations since January 2, 2026, and urged all motorists to regularise their documents promptly to avoid penalties, arrests, or prosecution during the joint DVLA-MTTD operation.
