The Member of Parliament for Asutifi North Constituency, Ebenezer Kwaku Addo, is being arraigned before a court over his alleged role in a recent attack on an anti-illegal mining task force.
Confirming the development during proceedings in Parliament on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, the Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga said the embattled MP was initially invited for questioning by the police but has since been taken to court for his arraignment.
“He went with the Majority Chief Whip and his lawyer. They received him at the CID headquarters and took him through the processes. I received a call not quite long ago that he has been taken to court, and as we speak, he is in court being arraigned,” Mahama Ayariga told the House.
He stressed that MPs are also accountable to the law.
“Let me also indicate that as Members of Parliament, we do not consider ourselves to be above the law. We are always ready to be held accountable for our actions and inactions,” he stated.
On Saturday, November 1, 2025, Ebenezer Addo was alleged by the police to have led some youth to obstruct the work of members of the government’s National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) near Bronikrom–Hwediem in the Ahafo Region.
Following the arrest of some alleged illegal miners by the NAIMOS officials, the MP is said to have led the youth to storm a police station where the suspects were taken to and demanded their release.
The hostile situation at the police station is said to have led to the release of the suspects to guarantee the safety of the NAIMOS officers.
Meanwhile, Ebenezer Addo, who is reported to have claimed to have acted on the instructions of the Member of Parliament for Asutifi South, Alhaji Collins Dauda, denied allegations of any wrongdoing.
