GRA shuts down 4 Chinese companies at Mallam

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has sealed four Chinese-owned companies in the Mallam area of Accra for failing to maintain and produce mandatory sales records during a tax compliance enforcement exercise.

The affected companies are WZL Doors Manufacturing Company, Alicanonizing Company Limited, Hai Ning Chen Yu Limited, and Yida Feng Company Limited. Some were also found to be selectively issuing VAT invoices.

Speaking to the media during the operation, Assistant Commissioner in charge of Accra Area Enforcement, Mr. Joseph Adjeikwei Annan, said the team inspected five companies within a large industrial yard, most of which are foreign-owned manufacturing and trading firms.

A fifth company, Mingzhou Ghana Limited, initially failed to present its records but avoided closure after producing the required documents as officers began sealing the premises.

Mr. Annan emphasised that keeping proper sales records is a legal obligation under Ghana’s tax laws, and failure to comply constitutes a serious offence.

He stated that the sealed businesses will remain closed until they submit the required sales records to the GRA.

The Assistant Commissioner noted that the Authority had conducted weeks of public education through radio, print, and other media platforms prior to the enforcement action, warning that non-compliance would lead to strict measures.

He warned that the nationwide compliance drive would continue across Accra and other areas until tax adherence improves, and urged all businesses to regularise their tax affairs.

Mr. Annan further cautioned that tampering with GRA seals attracts severe penalties, and enforcement could escalate to arrests and prosecution in persistent cases.

He appealed to the public not to shield tax defaulters, describing tax compliance as a shared civic duty critical for national development.
