Former Member of Parliament for Akim Abuakwa South, Samuel Atta Akyea, has vehemently denied allegations by New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Agyapong that he denigrated former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during a conversation at Heathrow Airport.
Appearing on UTV on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, Mr Atta Akyea described the claims as a “baseless lie,” stating that he has no recollection of ever meeting Mr Agyapong at the airport, let alone discussing the former President.
“Let me tell you something, it is a baseless lie. I have never met Akompreko at Heathrow and discussed Nana Akufo-Addo with him before,” he said, referring to Kennedy Agyapong by his nickname.
Mr Atta Akyea further argued that even if such a meeting had occurred and he had made critical remarks, Mr Agyapong’s decision to publicise a private conversation would reveal flaws in his character.
“In fact, even if it is true that we met at Heathrow and I insulted Nana Akufo-Addo in our conversation, and he has come out to disclose it, it will confirm how loose a cannon he is. It is just like me and you having a conversation behind closed doors; if I should go and disclose it, it tells your character that you can’t contain confidential information,” he added.
Challenging Mr Agyapong to provide evidence, the former Works and Housing Minister dared him to produce passport stamps to verify their alleged presence at Heathrow Airport at the same time.
“Again, he should go and bring his passport and let me bring mine so he can prove the time stamp showing our presence at Heathrow Airport. I have never met him at Heathrow to discuss Nana Akufo-Addo and neither do I recall ever meeting him at Heathrow Airport,” Mr Atta Akyea stated.
The allegations comes on the back of comments made by Kennedy Agyapong during an earlier appearance on the same UTV programme, where he claimed Mr Atta Akyea had used “filthy words” against then-candidate Akufo-Addo prior to the 2016 elections.
Atta Akyea had earlier raised questions about the capacity and emotional intelligence of Kennedy Agyapong as a presidential material.
