Residents of Tain-Ano, a cashew-growing community in the Jaman South Municipality of the Bono Region, were left in shock and disbelief as they ushered in the New Year following the alleged butchering of a couple by a farmer on a cashew farm in the area.
According to information gathered by the Ghana News Agency (GNA), the suspect, who is also a cashew farmer, fled the scene after the crime but later surrendered himself to the Police at Asiri, another cashew-producing town in the Jaman North District.
The tragic incident occurred on Sunday, January 4, 2026, while the couple was working on the farm. The suspect reportedly attacked them with a sharp cutlass.
In a telephone interview, Mr George Adane, the Jaman North District Chief Executive, confirmed the incident but clarified that the crime did not take place within his district.
The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at a local mortuary, with police investigations ongoing.
Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, the Bono Regional Public Relations Officer of the Police Administration, informed the GNA that the police are yet to receive detailed information on the case.
