A 32-year-old man, Mayemoh Gyangamo, is demanding a refund of GH¢70,000 from his former girlfriend after a DNA test allegedly proved he is not the biological father of her daughter, Patricia Donkor.
The case came to light during an appearance on Oyerepa Afutuo, a popular programme on Oyerepa FM, where Gyangamo narrated his ordeal and financial investments in the relationship following the pregnancy.
According to Gyangamo, Maakua, a native of Asante Bekwai, became pregnant, prompting him to make substantial payments and contributions as demanded by her family. He claimed her family initially collected an upfront amount of GH¢7,500 from him, received by her father.
He alleged that her father took a total of about GH¢8,000, including additional items purchased for the family. Gyangamo further stated that medical bills and related expenses during the pregnancy and delivery exceeded GH¢50,000. He personally spent around GH¢33,000 on the child’s naming ceremony alone.
Other expenses he listed include GH¢2,500 for Maakua’s surgery during childbirth, GH¢3,000 given to her for baby items, GH¢1,000 as additional support, funds allegedly provided for an attempted abortion, and a mobile phone he bought for her. These, combined with other costs, brought his total expenditure to approximately GH¢70,000.
Gyangamo expressed deep frustration, claiming Maakua later revealed she was from a royal family and could therefore not continue the relationship after the birth. He accused her family of exploiting him and wasting his time and resources.
“If the child is not mine, then I want back everything I spent,” Gyangamo insisted during the programme. He maintained that he would not accept any compromise and was fully entitled to a complete refund of all the monies he invested following the pregnancy.
