NPP primaries: Misconduct at polling station may lead to results cancellation – Election Committee Chair

The Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Elections Committee, Joseph Osei Owusu, has cautioned that results from any polling station involved in misconduct or irregularities during the party’s presidential primary on January 31 will be nullified.

The warning comes in the wake of a Peace Pact signed by the five flagbearer aspirants, designed to foster harmony, transparency, and internal unity throughout the electoral process.

In an interview on Channel One TV, Mr. Osei Owusu responded to concerns voiced by one of the aspirants, Kennedy Agyapong, regarding a clause in the pact that mandates acceptance of results from all polling stations.

Mr. Agyapong cited his experience in the 2023 presidential primary, alleging that three votes in his favour from a constituency were incorrectly recorded as zero.

Addressing the issue, Mr. Osei Owusu revealed that discussions had been held with the Electoral Commission (EC), emphasising a shared commitment to safeguarding the election’s credibility.

“The EC has assured that if any complaint is brought to their attention regarding untoward conduct at any polling station, they will not hesitate to cancel the election. I also affirmed that any conduct that undermines the integrity of the election will result in the cancellation of that station’s result,” he stated in an interview with Channel One TV.

The NPP’s presidential primary on January 31 is set to determine the party’s flagbearer for the 2028 general elections, representing a pivotal step in its strategy for the upcoming national vote.
