The Northern Regional Police Command has rescued a 42-year-old man who was kidnapped from his home at Wapuli in the Yendi District and arrested three members of a four-man syndicate who received a GH¢100,000 ransom from the victim’s family.
The suspects – Haruna Seidu, Amidu Bandi and Osman Bandi – were apprehended on Friday, December 5, 2025, at Bokpaba, a village along the Bimbilla-Yendi stretch of the Eastern Corridor, after an intelligence-led operation.
In a statement issued on Monday, December 8, Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Alhassan Luckman Niendow, said police received information about the abduction and immediately deployed a five-member team from the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate.
The team conducted surveillance and traced the kidnappers to their hideout where the victim was being held captive.
During the rescue operation, there was an exchange of gunfire between the police and the suspects. Three of the kidnappers were overpowered and arrested, while the fourth member escaped with gunshot wounds.
The rescued victim has since been reunited with his family.
The three arrested suspects are currently in custody assisting with investigations and are expected to be arraigned soon.
Chief Inspector Niendow appealed to the public, particularly residents along the Bimbilla-Yendi corridor, to volunteer information that could lead to the arrest of the fleeing suspect.
He assured residents that the Command remains committed to ensuring safety and security across the Northern Region.
