The Tema Regional Police Command has intercepted approximately 1,600 parcels of suspected marijuana being transported in two vehicles along the Akosombo-Tema road.
The operation, which unfolded in the early hours of January 11, 2026, was in the back of intelligence gathered on January 10 indicating that narcotic substances were en route from the Volta Region to Tema.
Police teams established surveillance points, particularly around the Agomeda Junction area, leading to the swift interception of the suspects.
According to a press release from the Ghana Police Service’s Public Affairs Unit, signed by ASP Dede Dzakpasu, the vehicles involved were a white Toyota Highlander with registration number GS 2013-13 and a black Mitsubishi Pajero bearing GC 400-22. The drivers, identified as 33-year-old Isaac Odoi and 39-year-old Kwame Mani, were apprehended at around 12:45 a.m.
A thorough search of the vehicles revealed 741 compressed yellow-wrapped parcels in the Toyota Highlander and 872 in the Mitsubishi Pajero, totaling 1,613 parcels of the suspected narcotic drugs. The suspects were arrested on the spot, and both vehicles were impounded and escorted to the police station for further processing.
On January 12, the exhibits and suspects were transferred to the Regional Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in Tema, where inventories and photographs were documented.
The suspects remain in custody, assisting with ongoing investigations. Samples of the substances have been forwarded to the Forensic Crime Laboratory for confirmatory testing, and police plan to search the suspects’ residences as part of the probe. Charges are expected to be filed soon, with the individuals set to appear in court.
