A staff member of the Electoral Commission (EC), Joseph Blankson Adumadzie, has formally petitioned President John Dramani Mahama to commence removal proceedings against EC Chairperson Jean Mensa and her two deputies, Dr Bossman Eric Asare and Samuel Tettey, over alleged misconduct.
In a statement issued on Monday, November 24, 2025, Mr Adumadzie confirmed that the petition was filed in accordance with Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution, which governs the removal of heads of independent constitutional bodies for stated misbehaviour or incompetence.
While declining to disclose the full contents of the petition as required by law, the EC staff member revealed that it contains 12 specific counts of alleged misbehaviour, including cronyism, abuse of office, and gross incompetence.
According to a Citinews report, the petitioner contended that the actions of the three senior officials have seriously undermined public trust in the Electoral Commission and jeopardised the independence and credibility of Ghana’s electoral process.
The petitioner notes that his action is rooted in the need to safeguard the Constitution and strengthen accountable governance, as well as the need to protect the dignity of the Electoral Commission, which is essential to ensuring a credible democratic system.
He has urged President Mahama to discharge his constitutional responsibility by forwarding the petition to the Chief Justice for the determination of a prima facie case, as stipulated under Article 146.
