GHOne TV journalist and morning show host Serwaa Amihere has called on the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, to implement a number of reforms after expressing disappointment over the poor attendance at the recent Kotoko-Hearts of Oak Super Clash.
Known for her consistent support for Kumasi Asante Kotoko and efforts to stir public interest in the Super Clash through her social media platforms, Serwaa took to X (formerly Twitter) to share her concerns. In her post, she referenced Kurt Okraku’s widely publicized mantra, “Bring Back the Love”, lamenting that it has failed to yield the expected results.
“Dear Kurt Okraku, you have been Ghana Football Association President since 2019 and your biggest mantra was: ‘Bring back the love.’
I support Kumasi Asante Kotoko, so our game against Hearts of Oak yesterday appeared in many of my social media feeds. Shockingly, for Ghana’s biggest football game, I saw the attendance at the Accra Sports Stadium and wasn’t impressed,” she wrote.
Serwaa questioned whether the GFA President has critically assessed his own performance since assuming office in 2019, pointing out that the Association often relies heavily on slogans without proper performance tracking.
She also referenced a disappointed fan who compared the traditionally intense Super Clash to the Ashanti Region’s Super Zonals Athletics Competition, stating that the latter was more exciting.
While acknowledging the Black Stars as Ghana’s biggest football brand, Serwaa emphasized the importance of investing in the local league, noting its potential for social and economic impact.
“Our biggest brand might be the Black Stars, but we cannot discount the economic and social impact of having a well-organized and properly managed Ghana Premier League.”
Among the key reforms she proposed were improvements in match-day security—a topical issue following the tragic death of Kotoko fan Nana Pooley during a clash with Nsoatreman FC, which led to the drafting of match-day security protocols.
She also called for better marketing of local games to attract fans, fair remuneration for match officials, and improved stadium infrastructure to ensure safety and family-friendliness.
“Sir, please fix security at our stadia, invest in marketing our game to attract fans, incentivize and properly remunerate match officials, get us improved playing pitches, and make our league centers safe for families.”
The Kotoko vs. Hearts of Oak Super Clash ended in a goalless draw at the Accra Sports Stadium. The match marked Abdul Karim Zito’s first Super Clash as interim coach following the departure of Prosper Narteh Ogum.
