Tamale High Court orders rerun of Kpandai parliamentary election in 30 days

The Tamale High Court has nullified the 2024 parliamentary election results in the Kpandai constituency and ordered the Electoral Commission (EC) to conduct a fresh poll in the entire constituency within 30 days.

Delivering the judgment on Monday, November 24, 2025, His Lordship Justice Emmanuel Brew Plange upheld a petition filed by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate, Daniel Nsala Wakpal, who challenged the victory of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Matthew Nyindam.

According to a Citinews report, Mr Wakpal, a former Member of Parliament for the area, argued that the December 7, 2024, parliamentary election was marred by serious irregularities and non-compliance with the Public Elections Regulations, 2020 (CI 127).

In his petition, he cited inconsistencies and violations of Regulations 32(7), 39(2), and 43 of CI 127 in the Form 8A (pink sheets) of 41 out of the 152 polling stations in the constituency.

He contended that the irregularities were substantial enough to affect the overall outcome of the election and prayed the court to set aside the results from the affected polling stations and order a re-run in those 41 stations.

However, after reviewing the evidence, Justice Plange ruled that the non-compliance was widespread and affected the validity of the entire election in the constituency.

The court consequently directed the Electoral Commission (1st respondent) to organise and conduct a fresh parliamentary election in all polling stations in Kpandai within 30 days to determine the rightful winner.
