The Health Facilities Regulatory Agency (HeFRA) has shut down the Tamale Technical University Hospital with immediate effect over serious safety violations and infection prevention lapses.

In a statement issued on Monday, November 10, 2025, HeFRA disclosed that intelligence reports, supported by video and photographic evidence, indicated that healthcare services at the facility were being delivered under unsafe and unhygienic conditions.

A subsequent inspection conducted by the Agency’s Compliance and Enforcement Directorate on Monday, November 3, 2025, corroborated the reports.

The inspection also revealed that the hospital had been operating with an expired licence, in breach of the Health Institutions and Facilities Act, 2011 (Act 829).

HeFRA has ordered the hospital to remain closed from Friday, November 7, 2025, until all identified safety and infection control deficiencies are fully rectified.

Additionally, the facility has been fined GH¢35,000 and directed to regularise its licensing status before it is permitted to resume operations.

“HeFRA remains committed to ensuring the safety of the Public through the provision of quality healthcare services,” the statement signed by the Acting Registrar, Dr. Winfred Korletey Baah concluded.
