Former Ghanaian Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta is appearing before a United States immigration court today, Tuesday, January 20, 2026, in a high-profile virtual hearing addressing his immigration status following his detention by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The proceedings, taking place at the Annandale Immigration Court in Virginia, come amid Ghana’s ongoing push for his extradition to face 78 counts of corruption and related offences back home.
Ofori-Atta, detained since January 6, 2026, at the Caroline Detention Facility in Virginia for allegedly overstaying his visa, is participating remotely.
Ghana submitted its extradition request in December 2025 after an Interpol Red Notice was issued in June 2025.
