We must build healthy men if we want healthy families and productive homes – Nana Oye Bampoe

The Deputy Chief of Staff, Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, has stressed that the health and well-being of Ghanaian men is key to building strong families, stable homes, and a productive workforce.

Speaking on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at the Jubilee House Banquet Hall during the Presidency’s commemoration of International Men’s Day under the theme “Healthy Men, Strong Families, Progressive Workplace,” Madam Bampoe Addo described men as wearing “three different hats” – leader at the workplace, provider and loving husband at home, and problem-solver in the community.

“Every drop of sweat shed by a man is rarely for himself alone; it is for his family, his community, and our dear nation,” she told the gathering.

She warned that the heavy responsibilities placed on men often expose them to fatigue, stress, and silent health challenges, urging deliberate efforts to support their physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being.

“If we want strong families and a productive workplace, then we must first build healthy men. Supporting them to live longer, stronger, and happier lives is not only an act of compassion; it is an investment in the stability of our homes, our institutions, and our nation,” she emphasised.

The Deputy Chief of Staff outlined practical lifestyle changes that all Ghanaians should encourage men to adopt.

These include eating balanced meals and reducing excess sugar and fats, prioritising rest and adequate sleep, engaging in regular physical activity (she praised the Chief of Staff’s weekly “Walk with Julius” as an inspiring example), attending routine medical check-ups for early detection of illnesses, building supportive networks where men feel free to talk and seek help, creating workplace cultures that respect breaks and reduce unnecessary pressure, and practising mindfulness through meditation, prayer, journaling, or reflection.

Linking the celebration to national development, Madam Bampoe Addo said a healthy male workforce is essential for the successful implementation of President John Dramani Mahama’s Reset Agenda.

“We are building a workforce poised to support the Reset Agenda of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama. This army… must be a healthy force if we are to achieve more and exceed the expectations of our families, our communities, and our beloved nation,” she stated.

“To all our men gathered here today… know that we love, appreciate and respect you. We cherish your leadership and dedication to patriotism… but we also urge you to stay healthy, for it is often said that health is wealth – and a healthy man is a blessing to his home, his workplace, and his country,” she added.
