An 82-year-old farmer from the Kwahu Afram Plains South District in the Eastern Region, Opanyin Abraham Kwaku Adusei, has been crowned the Overall National Best Farmer for 2025.
The veteran farmer emerged tops at the 41st National Farmers’ Day Awards Ceremony held in Ho, the Volta Regional capital, on Friday, December 5, 2025.
Opanyin Adusei, who beat several distinguished farmers from across the country, received a cash prize of GH¢1.2 million in recognition of his decades of dedication, innovation, and excellence in agriculture.
The awards were presented by President John Dramani Mahama, who commended the winners for their hard work, resilience, and commitment to national development through farming.
Forty-eight-year-old Osman Kadiri from the Greater Accra Region was named the first runner-up, while 63-year-old Charles Gyato from the Oti Region took the second runner-up position.
Madam Grace Owusuaah was adjudged the National Best Female Farmer for 2025. All runners-up and category winners also received cash prizes for their outstanding contributions to Ghana’s agricultural sector.
After receiving the top honour, Opanyin Adusei expressed profound gratitude and pledged to continue collaborating with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to improve the welfare of farmers and modernise the sector.
The ceremony formed the climax of the National Farmers’ Day celebrations, which recognise the critical role of farmers and fishers in ensuring food security and powering Ghana’s economy.
