The Rwandan government has initiated international arbitration against the United Kingdom, claiming it is owed £100 million following the cancellation of an asylum deal by Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer. Rwanda argues that the UK breached the terms of the Migration and Economic Development Partnership, signed in 2022 under the previous Conservative government, which involved sending some asylum seekers who arrived illegally in Britain to the East African nation. In a statement, Rwanda’s government cited the UK’s “intransigence” on the issues, prompting the pursuit of claims through arbitration. The claims include the UK’s public disclosure of the agreement’s financial terms,…
Former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay, has described the party’s upcoming January 31 presidential primary as a crucial test of its preparedness for the 2028 general elections. He was addressing growing public concerns about escalating tensions and heated exchanges among the flagbearer aspirants during the campaign. According to Freddie Blay, the vigorous contest is a sign of robust internal democracy, which is equipping the party for its future showdown with the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC). While admitting that some remarks during the campaign may have exceeded acceptable boundaries, he argued that these instances help…

The by-election follows the passing of the former Member of Parliament, Mahama Naser Toure. The Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has announced that the government is revising regulations to hike the penalty for overloaded trucks from the current GH¢5,000 to GH¢50,000. In an interview with GTV on Monday, January 26, 2026, Mr. Agbodza described the existing fine as insufficient to deter offenders, noting that it does not adequately cover the extensive damage inflicted on roads by overloaded vehicles. “You cannot have a penalty of GH¢5,000 when the damage you are doing is GH¢50,000. You have to increase the penalty,” he stated. The minister explained that the current axle load enforcement system…

The trio has filed a suit at the Supreme Court, seeking declarations against the New Patriotic Party (NPP), National Democratic Congress (NDC), and Convention People’s Party (CPP). They argue that these internal electoral processes disenfranchise ordinary party members and violate democratic principles outlined in the 1992 Constitution. The Attorney-General and the Electoral Commission (EC) have…
