It’s a shame – Miracles Aboagye decries high electricity cost on Ghanaians

Dennis Miracles Aboagye, a key aide to former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has criticised the Mahama administration over rising electricity tariffs, describing the situation as shameful and burdensome to ordinary Ghanaians.

In a post on his Facebook page, Aboagye urged the government not to consider any further increase in electricity tariffs at the end of the first quarter of 2026, warning that such a move would face fierce resistance from the public.

He argued that the cost of living is already escalating largely due to high electricity bills, leaving citizens unable to bear additional financial pressure.

“It’s a shame how this government, after bragging in opposition, has resorted to piling up economic pressure on the people,” Aboagye wrote.

He accused the administration of effectively “robbing the people” through the level of increases in electricity tariffs implemented so far.

Aboagye further called on the government to instead reduce electricity tariffs at the end of the first quarter to align with what he described as massively improved macroeconomic indicators, the principles of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), and the terms of the ongoing IMF Agreement.

“The government should resist any temptation to increase electricity tariffs at the end of this quarter as the same will be resisted fiercely by the people,” he stated.

He emphasised that “the cost of living keeps rising and the people can no longer be burdened.”
