Matthew Nyindam speaks after Supreme Court restored his Kpandai seat

The Member of Parliament for Kpandai, Matthew Nyindam of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has expressed deep gratitude to God, the Supreme Court, his legal team, party leadership, and the people of Kpandai following the apex court’s ruling that restored his parliamentary seat.

In a 4-1 majority decision, the Supreme Court quashed a High Court judgment that had annulled Nyindam’s election in the December 2024 parliamentary polls, with Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang delivering the dissenting opinion.

The ruling came after Nyindam invoked the Supreme Court’s supervisory jurisdiction, arguing jurisdictional error in the High Court’s decision to entertain and grant the election petition filed by the National Democratic Congress candidate outside the mandatory 21-day period stipulated under Ghana’s electoral laws.

Speaking to the media shortly after the judgment was delivered on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, Nyindam described the outcome as a triumph for democracy and the expressed will of the electorate of Kpandai.

“I want to thank God for what He has done in my life, and also to thank my lawyers,” he said.

“I also want to use this opportunity to thank the Supreme Court judges for the ruling. It is clear that there were attempts to change the will of the people of Kpandai, but the Supreme Court has affirmed that will, and I am most grateful,” he added.

Nyindam extended heartfelt appreciation to the NPP at all levels, from the national leadership to regional and constituency executives, for standing firmly behind him throughout the legal battle.

He particularly singled out former Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for the consistent encouragement and support he provided during the challenge.

The MP also commended the people of Kpandai for their unwavering confidence in him, noting that their joy was palpable following the verdict.

“I am sure that if you are in Kpandai today, you will see the joy of the people,” he remarked.

“They voted for me and expected me to serve them for the full four-year term, and I remain committed to serving them diligently,” he added.

With his mandate now fully restored, Nyindam pledged to continue delivering on his campaign promises and working for the development of the constituency in the Northern Region.
