Opinion by Samuel Nii Adjetey The rains are here again, and with them comes flooding, a familiar and painful reality for some residents of Accra. As dark clouds gather and the first drops fall, anxiety replaces excitement. Roads become rivers, homes are inundated, businesses are disrupted, and lives are put at risk. For a few weeks, everyone talks about the floods. Politicians visit affected areas and make promises, officials issue statements, and citizens express outrage. Then, when the rainy season passes, we return to business as usual, only to repeat the cycle the following year. What is even more alarming…
The Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Gender, Children and Social Protection and MP for Krachi West, Helen Ntosu, has called for stronger engagement mechanisms to help young people realise their full potential and contribute meaningfully to national development. She said the era in which issues affecting underrepresented groups were addressed through policies initiated, implemented and managed solely by governments was over. Citizens, especially the youth, now seek platforms to be heard in decision-making processes. This shift, she observed, reflects Ghana’s commitment to openness, transparency and the building of public trust. Ntosu made these remarks at the launch of the…
Former Dromaa East parliamentary aspirant, Paul A. Twum-Barimah, has welcomed the decision by the Accra High Court to grant bail to Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, describing it as a victory for constitutional rights and freedom of expression. In a Facebook post on May 21, Mr Twum-Barimah stated that the High Court granted the NPP Bono Regional Chairman bail in the sum of GH¢100,000 with two sureties after eight days in BNI custody over comments made about a Circuit Court judge on social media. According to him, the earlier decision by the Circuit Court to deny bail was…
The Member of Parliament for Tano North and Ranking Member on Parliament’s Finance Committee, Dr Gideon Boako, has attributed the reported financial losses of the Bank of Ghana to policy decisions involving the Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR), particularly changes affecting foreign currency deposits. In a Facebook post on Thursday, May 21, Dr Boako said he had earlier warned that the Bank’s audited financial statements would reflect substantial losses, a position he claimed was dismissed by some government communicators at the time. He maintained that subsequent publication of the financial statements confirmed his prediction. He argued that the losses were largely…

The Ghana Armed Forces concluded the exercise, with the closing ceremony held at the 11 Mechanised Battalion in Bazua. The Chief of Army Staff, Major General Lawrence Kwaku…
Former Finance Minister and Member of Parliament for Karaga, Mohammed Amin Adam, has alleged that the government’s 24-hour economy initiative has stalled due to a lack of funding and poor implementation. According to him, the secretariat established to oversee the policy has become ineffective because funds allocated for its operations have not been released. “The 24H Economy Secretariat is in coma as the government has not been releasing funds from the GHS110 million allocated to it this year,” he claimed. Dr Amin Adam argued that the failure to operationalise the secretariat raises serious concerns about the government’s commitment to the…
Former Finance Minister and Karaga MP, Mohammed Amin Adam, has praised the digitalisation agenda introduced under the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration, describing it as a more effective way of improving public service delivery than the current government’s 24-hour economy initiative. According to him, the administration led by former Vice President of Ghana, Mahamudu Bawumia, successfully transformed several public services through digital systems that improved efficiency, transparency and accessibility. “What the government has to do in the public sector is adopt what the previous NPP government was doing,” he stated. Dr Amin Adam highlighted a number of digital reforms…
The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has raised strong objections over the sudden transfer of a bail application involving its Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, describing the development as suspicious and a deliberate attempt to frustrate justice. Abronye DC was remanded into custody by the Circuit Court 9 in Accra over allegations of spreading false news. The NPP subsequently filed a motion for bail, which was initially assigned to Criminal Court Two but was later moved to General Jurisdiction Two at the last minute. Speaking in an interview with JoyNews after the proceedings, NPP General…
Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has dismissed claims that the government’s Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) initiative is failing, describing the allegations as unfounded. Dr. Ayine insisted that the ongoing prosecution of corruption-related cases is instead creating panic within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) because some of its officials risk imprisonment. Speaking to journalists after appearing before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Wednesday, May 20, the Attorney General rejected suggestions that the government was shifting attention from ORAL. “When statements like that are being made that we are doing this because ORAL is failing, ORAL…
Founder and Executive Chairman of the Africa Prosperity Network, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, has thrown his support behind Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin following the latter’s controversial remarks about a Circuit Court judge presiding over the case of NPP Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC. Afenyo-Markin has come under criticism after publicly challenging the judge’s conduct and declaring that he would no longer recognise him, citing what he described as a wrongful application of the law. The comments were made after Abronye DC was remanded over allegations of offensive conduct likely to cause public peace disturbance and the…
